A gold bar loses its shape. Edge by edge, the world’s heaviest promise gives way and slowly flows into the darkness.
The bar glows in rich cadmium yellow, white highlights lie on its edges. At its front the paint breaks away in long streaks – cadmium yellow, brilliant blue and quinacridone magenta drip into deep black. To the side, the metal melts into a glowing pool. Behind it a heavy vault door in grey and black keeps watch, with wheel and bolts, and looks on as its treasure flows away. The colour names come from the pigments with which David paints his originals.
