The work

Florence sleeps. Above the dark rooftops a single form glows: Brunelleschi’s dome, bathed in luminous quinacridone magenta.

White ribs run like lines of light up to the lantern. The paint lies thick and glossy on the shell and runs in long streaks down over the drum into the black; individual splashes break away and float into the sky. All around, the city stays monochrome – roofs, façades, scattered lights in the lanes – and above it a night sky in deep blue with bright veils of cloud, the hills on the horizon. The quinacridone magenta bears the name of the pigment with which David paints his originals.

For almost six centuries the dome has stood above Florence, a monument to the courage to build bigger than one’s own age thought possible. Here it becomes the heartbeat of the night: Renaissance meets the present.

Above a long dining table or at the end of a hallway, La Cupola in Magenta draws every eye: the magenta glows, the dark blue gives it calm – a Florentine night that stays with you.

FAQ
What is the difference between a limited edition, a print and an original painting?

The Limited edition is a photographic print, sealed behind acrylic glass in an ArtBox frame and limited to 50 copies: six formats from 80 × 45 to 176 × 99 cm, €749–€3,099. The art print is a Fine Art Print on Hahnemühle FineArt Pearl, 64 × 36 cm, open edition, €69. An Original painting is painted by David by hand in acrylic on canvas, from €1,750; a commission based on your subject, from €4,500. Final prices plus shipping (§ 19 UStG).

What does “limited edition” mean at ECCOIO?

Each motif is issued in no more than 50 copies – in total, across all six sizes. The edition will not be extended.

What does a limited edition consist of?

From a genuine photographic print on Fujifilm Crystal Archive DP II, sealed behind 2 mm matt acrylic glass – not printed on the glass. Behind it lies 3 mm Alu-Dibond, set in an ArtBox of black aluminium with a 4 mm shadow gap and an all-round hanging rail. Every limited edition is made to order by WhiteWall, a photo lab that by its own account works with more than 500 museums and galleries.

Which size suits my room?

As a rule of thumb: above a sofa, about two thirds of its width – so for 240 cm, 160 × 90 cm. On every limited edition page you can see the subject in six rooms at true scale.

Is the limited edition signed?

The certificate of authenticity is what is signed: numbered, dated and personally signed by David Immanuel Levi. He sends it to you separately by post – with its own verification code, which lets you check the authenticity of your copy online at any time.

How do I hang the limited edition?

On the hanging rail that runs around the back of the ArtBox – it lets you hang the picture in practically any position. How high it should hang is shown in the guide Hanging pictures.

How long does a limited edition last?

WhiteWall, the photo lab where David has his limited editions made, states a lifespan of at least 75 years for its photographic prints under exhibition conditions.

How do I care for the limited edition?

With a dry, soft, lint-free cloth, such as microfibre – without pressure and without glass cleaner. That is what WhiteWall, the photo lab where David has his limited editions made, recommends for pictures behind acrylic glass.

How are the limited editions created?

Limited editions are created digitally – from David's ideas, references and decisions, with modern tools. Originals he paints by hand in acrylic on canvas.
