One breath, then the flame. A man lowers his head and shields it with both hands, the cigarette between his lips. Cadmium yellow lies broad across shoulders, arm and fingers.
Brilliant blue and quinacridone magenta set the hair and shadows, plane beside plane, without transition. White highlights flash on cheek and chest. The ground remains a dark slate grey – nothing distracts from the hands and the fire between them.
A moment before the performance: the hands keep still, the noise still keeps its distance.
This original remains in the artist's possession. From it came the limited edition in upright format – for a tall wall in front of which your guests pause once more on their way out.
