Embers, drawn out in layers. On three panels, orange and yellow lie densely on top of each other, interspersed with black islands like charred remains.
On one panel, flames lick upwards into a black sky. The second grows brighter, yellow pushes forward, and below a greenish shimmer mixes into the fire. The third glows deepest, orange within black edges. Where the paint tears open, edges and drips remain.
The palette of brilliant blue, magenta and cadmium yellow is still years away here. Fire destroys and warms with the same hand. Which side prevails depends on the distance.
On the long wall by the dining table: three fields of embers, and you sit with everyone at your table in warm light – even on grey days.
