A banana. A raspberry. On the first canvas the fruit stands upright, half peeled, its skin hanging down in pale strips, yellow brushstrokes fading into white.
On the second, a single raspberry fills the picture: glowing red, every drupelet outlined in black, against a scratched grey ground.
Here the later palette of brilliant blue, magenta and cadmium yellow is still the future. Two fruits, as large as portraits – and a smile that stays. Le cose semplici sono le più belle – the simple things are the most beautiful.
In the dining room, to the left and right of the sideboard, you have yellow and red before your eyes at every meal.
