Yellow at the top, yellow at the bottom. In between, a broad band of blue, at its centre a core of carmine red tipping into violet. The paint is pulled over itself in long sweeps and torn open again – beneath, older layers flash through: green, white, a trace of orange.
Two panels follow this structure. On the third it dissolves: white breaks through, yellow dabs rain over red and violet.
Created early, before the palette condensed into brilliant blue, magenta and cadmium yellow. Like rain on a windowpane with a city glowing behind it.
In the conservatory, three panels in a row: when rain beats against the glass, yellow, blue and red hold the light for you.
